Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring my children on the tour?
Yes of course! There’s no children’s price for our tours, but any children aged 5 and older are welcome to enjoy the ride on our Great Basin tour at the full rate. And just let us know if you need a booster seat, and we can arrange it at no extra cost. Note: The alpine lake hike is moderate difficulty with elevation gain—please ensure children are comfortable with 2-3 hour hikes.
What hotels do you pick up from?
We pick up from all hotels within 2 miles of the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.
What time does this tour begin and end?
Pick-ups are at 6:00 AM from Treasure Island and drop-offs are usually around 9:00-9:30 PM, depending on conditions on the day of the tour. This is our longest day tour due to the remote location of Great Basin National Park.
Do I need to bring my own food and drinks?
No (only if you want)! We’ll provide unlimited water, drinks, and snacks for our guests along the way. We also arrange pre-made sandwiches for your picnic lunch at the alpine lake, which is included in the tour.
What kind of vehicle will I be in?
You will tour in high roof extended length passenger vans with 9 feet of head room, huge viewing windows, and plenty of legroom in each seat.

Can I bring luggage on the tour?
Unfortunately, there isn’t space for luggage and suitcases on the tour to Great Basin, but speak to your hotel and they can likely store them for you throughout the day.
Will I be picked up from my hotel?
Yes! As long as you are staying at a hotel within 2 miles of the Las Vegas strip or Downtown Las Vegas, you will be picked up directly from your hotel (pickup occurs at Treasure Island at 6:00 AM). We will email you the day before your tour to arrange the exact time and place you will be picked up for your Great Basin adventure.
What's for breakfast?
Breakfast is usually muffins, bananas, snacks, and juice provided in the van.
Is there a bathroom on the van?
Our tours are conducted in 15 seat passenger vans, not buses. There is no bathroom on our vans. We will make timely stops so all our guests can use the restroom throughout our Great Basin trip.
Can I bring my wheelchair?
Unfortunately, there isn’t room on our small group tour vans to bring a wheelchair. Additionally, the Alpine Lake Loop Trail is a moderate hiking trail that may not be accessible for those with mobility limitations.
What are the main highlights of this tour?
Experience Nevada’s highest peaks with the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive reaching over 10,000 feet, hike through alpine forest to pristine mountain lakes with stunning reflections, explore the ancient Lehman Caves on a guided underground tour, and discover hidden Nevada gems along the way.
What about winter conditions?
Parts of Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive are inaccessible during winter due to snowfall, but the park remains open year-round and the cave tour operates throughout winter. During winter months, the tour may include snowshoeing adventures through the park’s snowy landscapes—a unique and memorable experience!
Is tipping expected?
Your Tour Guide will work hard to ensure that all guests in attendance enjoy a uniquely memorable experience while traveling with MaxTour, and will serve as your photographer and chauffeur in addition to your source for knowledge about the sites your tour visits. While tipping is not mandatory, it is common practice and greatly appreciated by your Tour Guide.
